Which boxer size
should you choose?

How to measure, how to read brand sizes, and what to do when you are between two.

✔ How to measure✔ Guide values S to XL✔ Between two sizes

Boxer size is chosen by your waist measurement, taken where your trousers sit, not by your hip measurement. As a rule, boxer size follows trouser size: if you wear a 48, take an M, and with a 52, an L. As every brand has its own size chart, its chart always decides. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one if the fabric contains little elastane.

How to measure correctly

Two minutes with a tape measure are enough.

  • Measure your waist where your trousers sit, not at the narrowest point
  • Keep the tape measure horizontal and flat, without pulling it tight or holding your stomach in
  • Measure over thin clothing or directly on the skin, never over a jumper
  • Note the figure in centimetres and compare it with the brand's size chart
  • If in doubt, measure again later in the day and take the larger figure

Which size corresponds to what?

Guide values used by many brands. The chart of the brand in question remains decisive.

SizeUsual trouser sizeApproximate waist measurement
S44 to 46about 76 to 84 cm
M48 to 50about 84 to 92 cm
L52 to 54about 92 to 100 cm
XL56 to 58about 100 to 108 cm

These values are guidelines, not an official standard: every brand cuts differently. If they differ, follow the brand's size chart.

When the choice is not obvious

Four situations where your usual size is not enough.

Between two sizes

Take the larger size if the fabric has little elastane, the smaller one if it contains a lot and you like a firm hold.

Suits you if: your measurement is right on the borderline

A fabric without elastane

Pure cotton stretches a little with wear and then recovers less well. Better not to choose too tight a fit.

A size that varies by brand

That is normal: size charts differ. Go by your waist measurement in centimetres rather than by the letter.

Suits you if: you are switching brands

Boxers as a gift

Do not guess. Give a voucher: the recipient chooses their own size when using it.

He chooses the size himself

The boxers come in sizes S to XL.

He chooses the size himself

With an UNDY gift subscription, the question of size does not arise when you give it: the person who receives the voucher chooses their own size, from S to XL, as well as their start month. They then receive a pair of branded boxers every month, for example from HUGO, BOSS, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Nike, Adidas or Puma, in their letterbox.

What people often ask

How do you choose a boxer size?
By your waist measurement, taken where your trousers sit. Boxer size usually follows trouser size, but the brand's chart decides.
Which boxer size for trouser size 50?
Usually M, sometimes L depending on the brand. Compare your waist measurement in centimetres with the brand's chart.
What should you do when you are between two sizes?
Take the larger size if the fabric contains little elastane. Boxers that are too tight leave marks on the skin and wear out faster.
Are sizes the same across all brands?
No. Size charts vary from one brand to another, which is why it is better to rely on your waist measurement in centimetres.
Which size should you give if you do not know it?
None: give a voucher rather than a garment. The recipient chooses their own size, and there is no risk of the gift having to be exchanged.
